Cristina Fernández de Kirchner: “The protagonists of what happened on Saturday are almost the same as in 2001”

Vice President Cristina Fernández Kirchner met in Congress with senators and deputies of the Frente de Todos in the Blue Room of the upper house. The legislators and the former president analyzed the political situation after the request for a sentence of 12 years in prison and perpetual inhibition to occupy public offices in the framework of the cause known as “Vialidad”, and the repression that occurred in the neighborhood of Recoleta. After the meeting the vice president thanked “for the accompaniment and affection” on the part of the legislators. Within the tweet of gratitude included his intervention in the meeting, where he compared the protagonists of the repression in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Recoleta with the repressors of the demonstrations of 2001: “When you see the protagonists of what happened last Saturday, it is that you find the same or almost the same protagonists of what happened in 2001. What we saw on Saturday and then all weekend, that authority is that tightening, that madness, that false authority; it was the same one that led a President to sign a state of siege decree.” Coincidentally a group that was named after a meal, sushi. Do you remember? At least I remember because it was made up of the President’s children, a minister who is now the President of the PRO. They remember. Well, he was the one who prompted him to sign that decree of necessity and urgency to De la Rua so that he would show authority and not remain a faint-hearted,” said the former president. The meeting was attended by: the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Cecilia Moreau, the head of the ruling bloc, Germán Martínez, and the deputies Rodolfo Tailhade, Victoria Tolosa Paz, Marcelo Casaretto, Lucas Godoy and Carolina Gaillard. Senators Oscar Parrilli, José Mayans and Juliana Di Tullio also participated.
The legislators expressed their support for the Vice President, who was received with applause, and repudiated the recent episodes of repression against the demonstrators and Deputy Máximo Kirchner, for which they blamed the Buenos Aires government. In turn, they claimed the possibility that “the people can express themselves freely.” The meeting in Congress was not the only staging of political support for the former president; in parallel, the National Council of the Justicialist Party was convened in the historic Buenos Aires headquarters at 100 Matheu Street. After the meeting in the upper house, the deputies rushed to the PJ headquarters. There they met with the Chief of Staff, Juan Manzur; Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero; the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro; the Secretary General of the Presidency, Julio Vitobello; the governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof; and CGT Secretary General Hector Daer, among other leaders. The meeting was also attended by President Alberto Fernández, who returned before Bariloche to be at the meeting. This morning, legislators and referents of Peronism in Buenos Aires asked at a press conference for the interpellation of the head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, and the resignation of the Minister of Justice and Security of Buenos Aires, Marcelo D’Alessandro, whom they pointed out as responsible for the failed police operation mounted in the vicinity of the home of the Vice President in Recoleta.
