Exit plebiscite: no violence to those who think differently

In a country that arrives at the present from a divided history, in which narratives, symbols and future projects are disputed, paying attention to the predisposition to agreements, will help us reduce the distance that places us as opponents and open the horizon to encounter.
On September 5 – this coming Monday – in addition to the electoral and political analysis, we will begin a stage where, with the future in our hands, we will have to weave words and actions, to open ourselves to dialogue, listening and agreements.
The social explosion, the plebiscite of entry, the pandemic and the constitutional discussion, have made visible the different paradigms with which we yearn to build the future. While – vehemently – we dispute positions and responsibilities, in silence there is a transformation of understandings, visions and dreams, which weave a network of explicit and implicit agreements among a large majority of citizens.
Let us recognize that we have made transversal progress in recognizing the urgency of addressing our deep pains, reducing distances, taking care of our environment, of co-building in a country where it is possible to cultivate hope.
Let’s seize this opportunity to build bridges. We learn to include ourselves in a kind coexistence, to accept ourselves with our voices, tones, desires and ideas where everyone, all and all can be and express ourselves. We nurture a mature coexistence: one that accepts and coexists with difference in the house, neighborhood meetings, work spaces, educational establishments, on the street and also in politics.
How to live naturally and without violence before those who think differently, then becomes the unfinished business of our post-plebiscite lives. A challenge of constant learning to co-build a Culture of Encounter.
