Mexico added another 4,347 cases of COVID-19 and 36 deaths on Friday, according to the most recent report from the federal Ministry of Health.
The figures place the number of accumulated cases at 7 million 036 thousand 371 in two and a half years of pandemic.
Meanwhile, the number of people killed amounted to 329,572.
Mexico detected its first case of COVID-19 on February 28, 2020. Since then, it has gone through five waves of infections.
The fifth wave, still underway, is already in the downward stage, according to federal health authorities.
Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion Hugo Lopez-Gatell recently said that trend is at least four weeks old.
However, the official also acknowledged that there may be an uptick in infections in the months of October, November and December, when the cold season begins.
According to López-Gatell, as well as other specialists, COVID-19 is likely to soon become an endemic disease linked to cycles of low temperatures.
Meanwhile, experts and global health agencies urge governments and individuals to maintain infection prevention measures.
