Lozoya wins amparo against preventive detention by Odebrecht

Emilio Lozoya, former director of Pemex, obtained an amparo against the resolution that in 2021 put him in preventive detention for the alleged acts of corruption in the Odebrecht case.
The amparo was granted by a federal court, confirmed to Political Animal the defense of the former official. This amparo does not imply immediate release, but that the case is reviewed again.
Lozoya was remanded in custody in November 2021, after a judge accepted the request of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to change the precautionary measure against him.

By then, the former official was already linked to the Odebrecht case, although he had been allowed to face charges of bribery and other irregularities.
The situation changed when he was caught dining at an upscale restaurant in Mexico City. The FGR considered that Lozoya was acting in a “frivolous” way in the process against him, so it asked to impose a stricter precautionary measure and a judge gave him the reason.
Since then, the former official has been in the North Prison, where his defense seeks to negotiate an agreement that prevents his client from going to trial.
