Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud will define the US Open and the number one in the world

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Norway’s Casper Ruud will play the FINAL of the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, on Sunday for the first time in their careers. In addition to the title, the tennis players will compete for the number one in the world, since the winner of the match will be placed at the top of the ATP rankings from next Monday. Alcaraz, ranked fourth in the world, had to battle for more than four hours to prevail in the semifinal against the American Frances Tiafoe (26th). In an electrifying match, played at the Arthur Ashe stadium, the Murcia native won 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-1, 6-7 (5) and 6-3 and got into his first final of a tournament of this level. In fact, the Spaniard became at age 19 the youngest tennis player to reach the definition of a Grand Slam since his compatriot Rafa Nadal in the 2005 edition of Roland Garros. In addition, he will try to match what was done by the American Pete Sampras, who was proclaimed champion of the 1990 edition of the US Open at the age of 19. The other title contender, Norway’s Casper Ruud, currently ranked seventh in the ATP rankings, won the other semi-final against Russia’s Karen Khachanov (31st) 7-6 (5), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

The native of Oslo will play for the second time in the season the final of a tournament of this magnitude, since a few months ago he played the definition of Roland Garros, where he fell to the Spanish Rafael Nadal. In addition to going in search of the title in the US Open, the young tennis players will put at stake this Sunday the number one in the world, because the winner of the match will reach the top of the rankings of the ATP.Si Ruud does, he will be the first Norwegian to do so. While if Alcaraz succeeds, he will become the youngest in the history of the circuit. The players arrived with chances to climb to the top of the ladder thanks to the early defeats of the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who fell in the knockout stages and will not be able to defend the title, and the Spanish Rafael Nadal.
