Delta Fires: Santa Fe Mayors Protest at Obelisk

Mayors and community leaders of Santa Fe gathered this Thursday at the Obelisk to demand measures against the fires in the Paraná River delta.
Under the slogan “Stop burning”, the authorities of the area affected by the smoke protested since this morning in the center of Buenos Aires in demand of measures against the serious environmental situation that crosses the south of Santa Fe, especially the city of Rosario.

Let it be heard everywhere: act now those who have to prevent, put out fires and stop the culprits.

“We are 1.3 million people who breathe smoke every day for three years,” he warned from the historical monument. “This has to end, for the health of our people and for the disaster that is happening in the most important wetland,” he remarked, in statements to La Red radio.Days ago, while the smoke invaded the city of Rosario, the mayor, through a statement, again demanded the intervention of the Nation and the Government of Entre Ríos. “We need concrete actions, investigations, people detained. We need them to do it,” he said. For weeks, the smoke has invaded Rosario and at times, the air becomes unbreathable. The provincial Minister of Health, Sonia Martorano, described the impact of smoke on health: “Vacuuming it is like smoking 24 hours a day.” Given the seriousness of the situation, the health ministry recommended that the population keep doors and windows closed, avoid physical activity outdoors and resume the use of the mask.
