Mexico closes first half of September with 2,584 cases

After the first half of September, Mexico reached 7 million 068 thousand 348 accumulated cases of COVID-19, after this Thursday another 2 thousand 548 infections were added.
The most recent report of the federal Ministry of Health also indicates that this day another 31 deaths were counted, bringing the number of people killed due to the pandemic to 329,868.
After two and a half years since the first case was detected in the country – which happened on February 28, 2020 – Mexico has gone through five waves of infections.

The fifth wave is currently underway, although federal health authorities maintain that it is already in the downward stage.
Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion Hugo Lopez-Gatell said in August that this trend was already four weeks old.
However, he also acknowledged that there may be an uptick in infections at the beginning of the cold season, during the months of October, November and December.

Authorities expect COVID-19 to soon become an endemic disease linked to times of low temperatures.
Meanwhile, they seek to maintain vaccination towards sectors not yet immunized, such as children, and call on citizens to maintain measures to prevent infections, such as the use of masks, frequent hand washing, social distancing and ventilation of enclosed spaces.
