Axel Kicillof, against the City: “They become handsome with 16-year-old kids”

The governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, pointed out on Thursday against the Buenos Aires government for the seizure of schools in the City of Buenos Aires. “It’s outrageous,” he said. In a dialogue with Radio 10, the provincial president said that “in the City of Buenos Aires the issue of definancing and difficulties in the educational system is appearing” and recalled “the lack of priority” that Together for Change gave to education when they governed the Province and the Nation. Health and public education are a priority for the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires, we adopt a participatory model, we are interested in knowing the experiences and realities of students, “he differentiated. And he emphasized: “It is very important to compare the realities of CABA and Province because they want to make believe that it is all the same.” The governor stressed that in the province “we show with reality and concrete actions that we are on the way to solving the problems” and warned of “repressive acts” in the City, regarding the visits that City Police made to relatives of students who participate in the seizures to notify them. “They always make themselves handsome with 16-year-old kids, but not with the powerful, we never see them face the sectors of power,” he said. As of Thursday morning, more than a dozen schools were still occupied in the city. Last night, in addition, the National Buenos Aires joined the protest with an “overnight stay” and the students warned that the measure is “for an indeterminate time.” The conflict broke out last Friday, when students of mariano Acosta took over the establishment in demand of better food, improvements in the building infrastructure and against the compulsory educational practices for students of the last year of the secondary level. As the days went by, students from other institutions joined the protest. From the Buenos Aires government, they described as “violent” the modality of the claim and linked the takeovers with sectors of Kirchnerism. In turn, they denounced the families of the students and warned that they are preparing a civil lawsuit to transfer “the cost corresponding to the payment of salaries to teachers and non-teachers for each day without classes.”
