Government confirms that it will enter tomorrow Budget 2023 to Congress: they point to differences with the previous one and to “real expansion of spending”

The Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, confirmed today that the Government will enter tomorrow the draft Budget 2023 to Congress. The secretary of state pointed out that the initiative has “quite a few differences” with that of the previous government and relieved the “real expansion of spending.”
“This is going to be a budget that is going to have quite a few differences with the previous budget, although normally public spending has a lot of inertia, but we are going to see differences in the emphases, in the structure, in the regulations of the budget, which I think will give us meaning in that we want not only to spend more, invest more, but also spend and invest better,” Marcel said at a press point.
“Next year we are going to have a real expansion of spending, an expansion that will be greater especially in terms of social spending, in terms of investment in infrastructure, in citizen security spending,” added the Minister of Finance.
Minister Marcel was asked about the specific figure of the expansion of spending, estimated between 4% and 5%. The head of the fiscal wallet said that this will be announced by President Gabriel Boric in a national chain – which will be held on Thursday night – and that the increase in spending will be “within the range” mentioned.
“Many of the transitory components that were created during the pandemic are going to disappear from the budget and will be replaced by resources allocated by more permanent priorities and that respond to the needs of citizens,” Marcel continued.
“We’re going to have a difference in budget regulations. Over the years, many regulations have been added that are expressed in 750 pages of gloss that make up the Budget Law. We are going to reduce that … without sacrificing transparency,” he added.
