Judge opens proceedings against the alleged owner of the El Pinabete mine

A federal judge has linked Cristian “S,” the man identified as the owner of the El Pinabete coal mine, which collapsed last August and killed 10 workers.
Cristian “S” is charged with the federal crime of illicit exploitation of the nation’s property. In a hearing held in Coahuila, the judge considered that there are sufficient elements to open criminal proceedings against him, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) said in a statement released Friday.
The judge set a period of four months for the closure of the complementary investigation and determined that Cristian “S” remain in justified preventive detention in federal prison 18, in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila.

The FGR recalled that it seeks to arrest two other people probably responsible for federal crimes related to the collapse of El Pinabete. They are Arnulfo “G” and Luis “G”.
He also indicated that “he follows other lines of investigation in which private individuals and public servants are related to federal crimes.”

The collapse of El Pinabete, a mine located in the coahuila coal region, occurred on Wednesday, August 3. That day, water from nearby wells seeped into the ducts and flooded them, trapping 10 workers at the site.
Almost two months after the fact, their bodies have not yet been recovered.
