Government stops recommending the use of face masks

The federal government relaxed recommendations for the use of face masks, after more than two years of pandemic and weeks in which COVID-19 cases are on the decline. 
On October 7, he presented the Guidelines for the healthy continuity of economic activities in the face of COVID-19, which stipulates that the mask is only recommended in open and closed spaces where there is no healthy distance. 
In this way, people will be able to stop using it in open spaces with healthy distance, as well as in closed spaces where there is good ventilation and there is at least one and a half meters of separation between people. 

The use of the mask was never mandatory by the federal government, which has always issued only recommendations for use, but not the obligation to use it as such, nor sanctions for not complying with the measure, recalls Mauricio Rodríguez, epidemiologist and spokesman for the COVID Commission of the UNAM.  
During several press conferences, the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, the main spokesman for the federal strategy against COVID, repeatedly said that wearing a mask was not an obligation. Some state and municipal governments did classify it as such and even went so far as to establish sanctions for those who did not wear a mask.
Regarding sanitizing mats, the guidelines issued on October 7 – and in whose preparation the Ministries of Health, Labor and Economy, as well as the IMSS participated – indicate that “there is no evidence that they work, so their use is withdrawn. They should not be used!”
