The security measures you should consider before the theft of a car

Undoubtedly, the theft of a car is a traumatic experience and although there has been a decrease in the numbers of “encerronas”, the violence with which they occur and the media information generate a sense of insecurity in the population.
Given this scenario, it is important to take protective measures and put technology on our side.
In this regard, Carabineros Lieutenant Matías Cisterna, head of the Vehicle Search Section, Valparaíso, points out that “criminals usually steal cars to commit other types of crimes, whether locking ups or robberies at homes, and in a small amount they use them for the disarmament of vehicles to sell them for parts and parts.”
He adds that “another percentage is also to clone them, that is, to give a new identity to the vehicle that, when acquiring a false patent, makes it circulate as a bleached vehicle.”
In addition, the officer highlights an increase in violence with which vehicle thefts are committed along with an increase in the theft of cars parked on public roads.
In this sense, according to information provided by the Association of Insurers of Chile (AACH), until August of this year, there have been 7,908 cases of theft with vehicle violence and 6,766 stolen vehicles (insured) between January and May 2022.
Recommendations
Among the recommendations delivered by the Department of Order and Search of People and Vehicles of Carabineros (SEBV), is the installation of a GPS to the vehicle -in case of having the option- because in general, it is easier to locate and subsequently return to their owners when the cars have these devices.
In relation to the above, Francisco Simonelli, Brand Manager of Dercocenter Aspillaga Hornauer, indicates that “today the most used technology for tracking cars via satellite system is GPS, since it gives the almost exact location of where the car is located”.

He also comments that “there are several alternatives for the protection of people and the car, starting with installing safety sheets on the windows of the car, which will serve in case they want to break the glass as well as in case of falling a foreign body. We also find more economical devices such as the steering wheel lock, gear lever lock and pedal lock.”  
Both Carabineros and experts in the automotive sector agree that in case of attempted car theft, it is best not to resist, since a life is worth much more than the material good.
