Two Argentines advanced in the Challenger of Rio de Janeiro

The Argentine tennis players Juan Manuel Cerúndolo and Federico Coria won their respective matches this afternoon and reached the quarterfinals of the Challenger of Rio de Janeiro, a contest that is played on a brick dust surface, an instance in which they will measure each other. Coria, ranked 72nd in the ATP world rankings, had to fight intensely to beat his compatriot Juan Bautista Torres (237th) with partials of 3-6, 6-4 and 7-6 after two hours and 46 minutes of contention on one of the courts of the Rio Tennis Academy.In the quarterfinals, the Rosario will face Juan Manule Cerúndolo (155th), who forcefully beat the Swiss Remy Bertola (386°) by a double 6-2.In the series of confrontations between the two there is predominance of Cerúndolo in the two games they played. The 20-year-old won during 2021 over Coria in the Challenger in Zagreb and in one of the semifinals of the ATP 250 in Córdoba.On the other hand, Renzo Olivo (175th) from Rosario was eliminated in the knockout stages by Luciano Darderi (181), Argentine tennis players who adopted Italian nationality in times of pandemic, with partials of 6-2 and 6-4.Finally, for tomorrow is scheduled the second round duel between the Argentine Genaro Oliveri (265°) and the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (104 and second seed).
