Roald Dahl’s “Matilda: The Musical” Comes to Netflix with Emma Thompson as Tronchatoro: Watch the New Trailer

While it is less and less to come to Netflix, “Matilda, by Roald Dahl: The Musical” presented its new and complete trailer, which inserts us once again, with a promising staging and a repertoire of songs (by Tim Minchin) and choreography (by Ellen Kane), to the story of the girl with a powerful mind and lover of reading. Starring Alisha Weir (“Don’t Leave Home”) as Matilda, the story adapts in a musical version, the classic by Roald Dahl, the author of books such as “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “Jim and the Giant Peach” and “The Witches”, all taken to the big screen and narrating child characters as subjects of rights.

It is a new adaptation from the first film version released in 1996 (which became an icon of its time), by Danny DeVito and with Mara Wilson in the main role. Here they will accompany Weir, the Oscar winner (for “Howards End” and “Sense and Sensibility”), Emma Thompson – who comes from embodying another antagonistic character in “Cruella”, another live action adaptation – as Agatha Tronchatoro, whom we see with a shocking characterization: with her impeller and military dress that make the strict and sinister director.

Rounding out the main performances are Lashana Lynch (“Captain Marvel”) consisting of Miss Honey, Stephen Graham as Matilda’s father, Mr. Wormwood; Andrea Riseborough as the mother, Mrs. Wormwood; Sindhu Vee as Mrs. Phelps; Charlie Hodson-Prior as Bruce Bogtrotter (who we see in the trailer with his chocolate cake), Meesha Garbett as Hortensia; Rei Yamauchi Fulker as Lavender, Winter Jarrett Glasspool as Amanda Thripp (the girl whom Tronchatoro pulls her braids as punishment); Andrei Shen as Eric; and Ashton Robertson as Nigel.Directed by Matthew Warchus, the playwright who performed this musical on Broadway, a work that won awards such as the Theater Critics Circle for Best Musical and was nominated for Best Musical at the Tony Awards. Roald Dahl’s “Matilda: The Musical” made its debut on opening night at the BFI London Film Festival. It premieres on Netflix on December 25, Christmas Day.

Meanwhile in Argentina this award-winning show will arrive at the Gran Rex, directed by the renowned playwright Ariel del Mastro, and is in the audition stage.
