UDI Deputies Bill Seeks to Remove State Benefits from Those Who Assault Carabineros

UDI deputies Cristóbal Martínez and Henry Leal presented a bill to take away state benefits from those who assault Carabineros officers or damage private property in the context of demonstrations.
“We have decided to present this bill, so that all people who go to a march with the aim of committing a crime think twice, because they will run the serious risk of losing all the state benefits they may be receiving at that minute,” said the deputies, collects Radio ADN.
The initiative points out that those convicted of crimes in the context of a social demonstration will lose their state benefits for a period of five years. Nor will they be able to apply to them during that period. In the case of those who reoffend, the parliamentarians proposed that the sanction be extended for life.
“We are talking about state benefits such as free university, economic bonuses granted by the Government, housing or rental subsidies that currently exist, among other social aid that is delivered in our country,” they detailed.
“Because it does not seem fair to us that, with the taxes that all Chileans pay, we are benefiting those who have caused serious damage to our country,” said the UDI deputies.
“With this project, those who intend to cause damage or attack police officers during a demonstration should know that they will no longer receive state benefits,” they added.
