UK: Who is Rishi Sunak?

Rishi Sunak was officially commissioned by King Charles III to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom following the resignation of Liz Truss. In this way, he became the first to be appointed by the new monarch. The new prime minister was part of Boris Johnson’s government as finance minister, but last July he left his post and this generated part of what was the fall of the conservative leader. Later, he wanted to lead the United Kingdom but Truss prevailed in the elections, however, three months later he achieved his goal.

At the same time, the BBC reported that Sunak is the first of Indian origin to hold the post of prime minister and at 42 is the youngest in more than 200 years to reach number 10 Downing Street, the seat of government. During his first speech, the new official pledged to unite the country and stressed that Britain faces “a profound economic challenge”. In that sense, he said: “I will unite our country not with words but with actions.”

In turn, he praised Truss for having the “noble goal” of wanting to improve the country’s economic growth; Although he maintained that “some mistakes were made,” which were not “born of ill will or bad intentions, quite the opposite.”
