Kaitlyn Dever: “Rosaline is feminist and ahead of her time”

Now available on Star+ is “Rosaline,” a fresh, comedic take on Shakespeare’s classic love story “Romeo and Juliet,” told from the perspective of Romeo’s girlfriend, Rosaline, who is Juliet’s cousin. Heartbroken when Romeo meets Juliet and begins to pursue her, Rosaline plots to thwart the famous romance and get her boy back. It stars Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Kyle Allen, Sean Teale, with Minnie Driver and Bradley Whitford. 

“She’s the girl Romeo dated before Romeo met Juliet at the Capulets masked ball, and she throughout the course of the film tries to separate the two of them to save her own relationship with Romeo,” Dever explained, in a generic interview accessed by Filo.news. I always thought it was very special, to tell a story that we know but from a different angle and a different perspective. It’s modernized,” reflected the actress, who previously starred in series such as “Inconceivable” for Netflix or “Justified.”

How do you identify with it? “I’m similar to Rosalina, I think she’s maybe a slightly higher version of herself or myself. I think she’s someone I really admire,” he confessed. He then continued, “She is a very determined and courageous person. She’s a true feminist and ahead of her time, I really loved playing her. She’s super smart and funny.” The film was directed by Karen Maine from a screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the film was produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine.
