A federal court has exonerated four lawyers whom fellow litigator Juan Collado had accused of wanting to extort him. According to Collado’s complaint, the defendants demanded millionaire resources in exchange for helping him in the criminal process against him and argued that they were close to Julio Scherer Ibarra, former legal adviser to the Presidency of the Republic.
In its resolution, the Fourth Unitary Court in Criminal Matters of the First Circuit determined that there are no elements to proceed criminally against lawyers Juan Araujo, César González, Isaac Pérez and David Gómez Arnau.
Collado, who has been a lawyer for high-profile politicians such as former presidents Carlos Salinas de Gortari and Enrique Peña Nieto, was arrested in 2019 and remains in detention.
The litigant is charged with the crimes of organized crime and money laundering.
Parallel to the criminal process against him, he denounced that Araujo, González, Pérez and Gómez Arnau wanted to extort him by asking him for millions of resources in exchange for helping him solve his case.
In his complaint, Collado states that the lawyers used his alleged closeness to former counselor Scherer Ibarra to argue that they had influence within federal instances and that, therefore, they could help him be released.
Within this case, last May, a federal judge determined not to bind the litigants to the process, after considering that there are not enough elements to act against them.

Collado and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) appealed the determination, which has now been supported by the Fourth Unitary Court in Criminal Matters of the First Circuit.
