The SEP will allow teachers to fail students

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) changed the evaluation criteria and from the second two months of the 2022-2023 school year, teachers will be able to give failing grades to students.
“An agreement has just been reached that implies that there is an evaluation with accreditation qualification,” said the head of the SEP, Leticia Ramírez Amaya.
During the pandemic, the SEP established that students could not be failed due to the conditions in which classes were taken.

According to the agreement of the SEP, these criteria will be applied to students from third to sixth grade and all secondary students, who will be evaluated on a scale of 5 to 10 on their report card.
The students of first and second of primary will remain with the current scheme, where the minimum grade will be 6.
Leticia Ramírez said that the objective will not only be to fail students, but to really evaluate their performance and get them to leave the lag caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our goal is that they are in school, that they learn there and that they are happy, because that also has to do with something that the senators raised: the health of spirit, emotional, socio-emotional, so we want to leave it as an administrative issue,” he told the media.
The Secretary of Public Education explained that all the states of the country must follow the new provisions regarding evaluation.
“They should already start applying it in the second two months, they are already informed,” he said.
