Lima Latam plane crash: airport says firefighters were conducting scheduled exercise

Lima Airport Partners (LAP), operator of the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru, boarded on Sunday the collision of a Latam plane with an aeronautical fire truck, which occurred on Friday afternoon. In this regard, they indicated that the latter were doing a scheduled exercise.
Recall that as the plane was preparing to take off, it collided with the truck. The crash left two airport firefighters dead. Meanwhile, no passengers or crew members died.

“The maneuver performed on November 18, by the LAP Rescue team, was an exercise called Response Time. This exercise seeks to prove that aeronautical firefighters can attend an emergency on the runway in a time no longer than three minutes,” LAP said in a statement.
From LAP they revealed that the exercise is stipulated in the Peruvian Aeronautical Regulation (RAP 314). In addition, they pointed out that the operation was previously coordinated between the airport operator (LAP) and the Air Traffic Authority (Corpac), “as on previous occasions,” they said.
“In this case, the coordination began on November 17 and Corpac proposed to carry out the exercise between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. the next day,” they said. In that line, they maintained that the firefighters carried out on November 18 “all the necessary coordination to execute the maneuver.”
“Control tower (Corpac) confirmed the start time for 3:10 p.m., the time at which the maneuver began, producing the impact with the Latam aircraft at 3:11 p.m.,” LAP said.

Reopening
The airport resumed operations in the early hours of Sunday, after being closed since Friday afternoon as a result of the accident.
“We encourage passengers to contact their airlines and/or authorized agencies for the rescheduling of their flights,” LAP said on its Twitter account.
