Russia and Ukraine blamed for latest bombing of Zaporizhia nuclear plant

Strong explosions were recorded in Zaporizhia during the morning of this Sunday (20.11.2022), in what would be a new attack on the town where the largest nuclear plant in Europe is located, under Russian control since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
After the attack both Russia and Ukraine accused each other of bombing the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Kiev “does not stop its provocations aimed at creating the threat of a man-made catastrophe at the Zaporizhia nuclear plant,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, detailing that between Saturday and Sunday Ukrainian forces fired more than 20 “large-caliber projectiles.”
The projectiles exploded between energy blocks number 4 and 5 and hit the roof of a “special building” located near these blocks, added the document published by the Russians that also ensures that despite the bombings, “the level of radiation in the area of the plant remains in accordance with the norm.”

For its part, the Ukrainian nuclear agency later accused the Russians of having bombed the plant. “This morning of November 20, 2022, as a result of numerous Russian bombings, at least 12 hits were recorded against the territory of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant,” Energoatom said, accusing the Russians “once again” of “endangering the whole world.”
The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, reported “powerful explosions” that rocked the plant on Saturday and Sunday. “This news (…) It is extremely worrying. Explosions occurred at the site of this major nuclear power plant, which is completely unacceptable,” he warned.
