Plane crashes in residential neighborhood of Medellín and leaves at least eight dead

A small plane fell on Monday in a residential neighborhood of the Colombian city of Medellín and caused the death of its eight occupants as well as damage to at least seven homes in a residential sector, authorities said.
“Sadly we have eight lives lost. It is a flight that impacts around 10.15 a.m. in the Belén Rosales neighborhood, very close to the airport,” Medellín Mayor Daniel Quintero told reporters.
The official revealed from the scene of the accident that the plane, at the time of takeoff, “shows a failure in an engine,” and that the pilot “does not manage to keep the plane in flight,” so it “collides” in that sector of the city.
Quintero said that the bodies of the eight crew members of the aircraft, which “broke into six parts” after impact, have already been identified.
“There are seven houses very affected and a damage that will be evaluated if it is structural on six buildings. At that particular time, there was no one in the most affected house,” Quintero said.
The mayor did not confirm or rule out injuries, as the relief agencies that attend the emergency are inspecting the place, where 35 people work, including aeronautical firefighters, attending “hot spots.”
Meanwhile, the Civil Aeronautics of Colombia (Aerocivil) reported that a team of experts from the Technical Directorate of Accident Investigation will investigate the causes of the accident.
The Olaya Herrera airport said that among the dead is the manager of San Germán, Nicolás Jiménez.
