“The Book of Pleasures”, Clarice Lispector’s festival-winning adaptation, announces its premiere

“The Book of Pleasures”, the film adaptation of the novel by Ukrainian-Brazilian journalist and writer, Clarice Lispector, one of the most consecrated Latin American literature of the twentieth century, announced its arrival in Argentine cinemas. The filmmaker Marcela Lordy (“The Impassive Muse”), produces, writes (together with Josefina Trotta) and directs this free version of the novel of the autra Learning or The Book of Pleasures. For this, he returned to work with the artist Simone Spoladore, after his leading role in the other mentioned film; who now shares the lead role with actor Javier Drolas.” The Book of Pleasures” is an erotic drama that follows the encounter between Lóri and Ulisses “and their personal challenges in accepting love. An elementary school teacher, Lori is a melancholy and reserved woman who lives alone. He has a monotonous routine between school assignments and some furtive relationships that show his difficulty in building relationships of affection. By chance he meets Ulisses, a renowned professor of philosophy, an egocentric and provocative Argentine who still did not understand anything about women. It is with him that Lori learns to love, facing her own loneliness”, as the synopsis advances. The cast also has the performances of Felipe Rocha, Gabriel Stauffer, Martha Nowill, Theo Almeida, and the special participation of Leandra Leal, Julia Leal Youssef, and Ana Carbatti, who join the work with Spoladore, who comes from being awarded the Best Actress award at the BAFICI (Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival). Accompanying Lordy in the production: Deborah Osborn, Felipe Guimarães Briso and Gilberto Topczewski. “The Book of Pleasures” comes from a tour and award at international events such as Cinecitta International Film Festival Tilburg (Netherlands/2021) where it received the Audience Award, the Vitória Film Festival (Brazil/2020) where it participated in the Official Competition and won Best Screenplay, Best Performance for Simone Spoladore, and received an Honorable Mention in Photography (Mauro Pinheiro Júnior, ABC), as well as others where it was the opening or closing film. It opens on December 8 in Argentine cinemas.
