Fernández: “I’m thinking about resolving the issues of my country, not about re-election”

President Alberto Fernández said he is not currently thinking about a possible re-election with the current situation. “With all the problems you pose to me, I am thinking only of solving the country’s problems, I am not thinking about re-election,” she said after the vice president said she was not going to run in the next elections after being convicted in a case for alleged corruption. Along the same lines, he remarked that he was “absolutely involved in the problems of management” and said: “I want to finish my term having sown Argentina with opportunities for whoever succeeds me or if I continue, I do not know, I have the possibility of seeing that sown germinate and harvest in favor of the Argentines.” Alberto Fernández participated in an interview with the British media Financial Times in the framework of the sixth edition of The Global Boardroom, which takes place from December 6 to 9, where the newspaper organizes a series of digital videoconferences in which strategies for sustainable growth in a world of geopolitical and economic disruption are discussed. which brings together leaders in business, policy and finance. In addition, the President reflected on the political present of Latin America, where he affirmed that although Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia and now Brazil have “progressive governments,” there is “a scenario of social and ideological division in two major political areas.” In this sense, he affirmed that the ideological rift “is not happening only in the region” but occurs throughout the world, but “perhaps in Latin America it acquires a greater dimension because we are in the most unequal continent in the world, where the gap between rich and poor is greater and these social crises are permanently expressed.” Despite the fact that the moment is difficult, as in the whole world, and that here it is particularly difficult because of the inequality that exists, the future is a promising future and if we know how to take advantage of it, it is a great opportunity, “said the president. Latin America is also the reservoir of what the world needs in the future.” Likewise, the President recalled that “between Bolivia, Chile and Argentina we have two thirds of the lithium that exists in the world and it is the energy of the future. In Patagonia we can develop green hydrogen and it is a great opportunity that we have” and added: “Argentina is the second reservoir of unconventional gas and if the gas is converted into transitional energy it can be a great opportunity. And if the world is going to need food, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay are great suppliers to the world.” Speaking about the challenge of generating policies to favor local industries, the president said: “I am an enemy of the extractivist logic of minerals. I’m talking about not taking out raw lithium, but turning it into lithium carbonate and whether it’s possible to make lithium batteries for the world.” The president concluded: “The leap is to industrialize Argentina, to stop being an exporter of primary products and become an industrial country.”
