INAI chooses two academics for committee that will evaluate INE candidates

The plenary session of the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) elected Maite Azuela Gómez and Sergio López Ayllón, as members of the Technical Committee for the Evaluation of aspiring counselors of the National Electoral Institute (INE).
The decision was made unanimously, after 10 personalities whose academic and work career is focused on strengthening democracy, studying the relationship between transparency and elections, and the functioning of the INE were nominated.
The INAI recalled that, in accordance with Article 41 of the Constitution, it is established that two of the seven members of the Evaluation Committee of the candidates to the INE will be appointed by this autonomous body, two by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and three by the Chamber of Deputies.

Yesterday, it was announced that the CNDH appointed Ernesto Inzunza and María del Socorro Luévano as members of the Technical Evaluation Committee.

Maite Azuela Gómez is a political scientist and journalist; studied Political Science and Public Administration at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico; holds a master’s degree in Politics and Public Administration from Concordia University in Montreal.
He has worked in public service, academia and organized civil society; She is also an analyst on human rights, anti-corruption and political communication.
She has been a public official at the then Federal Electoral Institute (IFE), where she was director of Electoral Training and Civic Education; She was Deputy Director of Training and Staff Development at the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, as well as Director of Organizational Human Development at the Federal Institute of Access to Public Information (IFAI).
Sergio López Ayllón holds a degree and a doctorate in Law from UNAM; He obtained his master’s degree in Sociology of Law and Social Relations at the University of Law, Economics and Social Sciences in Paris.
He is a research professor at the Division of Legal Studies of the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE), an institution of which he served as Director General, between February 2013 and July 2021.
He is a member of the National System of Researchers, Level III; of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the International Academy of Comparative Law, among other associations.

Currently, he is part of the Governing Council of Transparencia Mexicana; the Advisory Council of the Network for Accountability, and the Advisory Council of Mexicans against Corruption and Impunity.
