He was unable to elect his president.

It has not happened for 100 years: the new House of Representatives of the United States adjourned on Tuesday without being able to elect its president due to tensions between Republicans.
Republican Kevin McCarthy, the overwhelming favorite to replace Democrat Nancy Pelosi, failed to calm the revolt of a group of supporters of former President Donald Trump, who consider him too moderate.
The congressmen decided to adjourn the session until Wednesday morning to give themselves time to negotiate behind the scenes.

Republicans, who won a slight majority of House seats in November’s midterm elections, intend to use their counterpower to open a series of investigations into US President Joe Biden, D-Calif., including how he handled the covid-19 pandemic.
But first they have to agree on who will preside over the House of Representatives so that congressmen can be sworn in.
Votes
The election of the head of the House, known as the “speaker,” the third most important figure in American politics after the president and vice president, requires a majority of 218 votes.

A figure that McCarthy has not managed to reach for the moment, after three rounds, due to the opposition of a score of congressmen related to Trump who have decided to spoil the party.
McCarthy’s candidacy has broad support within his party. In fact, the announcement of his nomination Tuesday on the floor was met with a standing ovation in the Republican ranks.
At the beginning of the third round there was some discomfort. More moderate Republicans called on their colleagues to support McCarthy.
“We came here to do things,” Republican leader Steve Scalise said, drawing laughter among Democrats.
Throughout the votes, Biden’s party has rallied around the candidacy of Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, applauding him to the tune of “Hakeem, Hakeem, Hakeem!” But he lacks enough votes to be elected.
The election of a House speaker could be decided in hours or weeks. In 1856 it took two months.
McCarthy seems willing to make concessions to the most conservative to prevent history from repeating itself since in 2015 the right wing of the party already prevented him from holding office.
But he also can’t afford to turn against moderate Republicans.
Although his room for manoeuvre is limited, at the moment he does not have a strong rival. As a possible alternative, only the name of Jim Jordan circulates.
Does it benefit Biden?
With the House under Republican control, Biden will not be able to push through big projects, but the opposite camp is not because the Senate is still in the hands of the Democrats.
For them to entrench themselves in systematic opposition they would have to be united, and the December budget vote showed that some Republicans voted with Democrats.
With the choice of the “speaker” disunity is again obvious.
And a hostile House could even benefit him if Biden confirms his intention to run again in the 2024 presidential election.
The president is careful to comment on Republican divisions. His spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, said the Democratic leader would not “meddle in this process.”
In the event of legislative paralysis, he will most likely blame the blockade on Republicans, hoping to benefit politically.
