Ovidio Guzmán recaptured; there are shootings and blockades in Sinaloa

Authorities recaptured Ovidio Guzmán, alleged drug trafficker of the Sinaloa Cartel and son of Joaquín el “Chapo Guzmán”, which caused a day of shootings and blockades in Culiacán.
In different areas of the municipality there are clashes after an intense operation at the northern exit of the city, according to the Northwest website.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said in his morning conference that the events in Sinaloa were recorded by an operation that began in the early hours of Thursday.

On October 17, 2019, Ovidio Guzmán López was located and detained by federal authorities in a house in the Tres Ríos subdivision, in Culiacán, Sinaloa, but later let him go to avoid further violence in the city.
The first reports, indicated that day, indicated that he had been captured, however, later in a conference the then Secretary of Federal Security, Alfonso Durazo, said that Guzmán López had been identified and then agents determined to “suspend actions”, without giving more details.
Then it was pointed out that in order to safeguard the higher good of the integrity and tranquility of Culiacan society, the officials of the security cabinet agreed to suspend such actions, we also made the decision to move to the city of Culiacán, to personally conduct the corresponding actions, “Durazo added.

Who is Ovidio Guzmán?
Ovidio Guzmán López, known as El Ratón, is wanted by US authorities for drug trafficking from Mexico to that country. 
He and his brother Joaquin are charged in US federal court with conspiring to “distribute cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana from Mexico and elsewhere” to the United States between April 2008 and April 2018.
In February 2019, this indictment filed by Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice and Special Agent Scott Brown of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (HSI) National Security Investigations of Arizona was unveiled.
