At Richnek Elementary School in Virginia, a six-year-old student opened fire Friday on his teacher, who is still in intensive care with injuries that could cause his death. The boy was taken into police custody and authorities said it was not an accident. Despite the latest medical reports indicating favorable progress in the teacher’s health condition, the injuries are still “life-threatening,” authorities said. Also, the local police chief, Steve Drew, revealed that “the individual is a six-year-old student, right now he is in police custody,” and acknowledged that “it was not an accidental shooting.” In the school where the incident occurred, students go through a metal detector and are randomly checked. So the minor managed to go unnoticed and entered a firearm to the school, so now the investigations aim to clarify the way in which the young man accessed the revolver. Violence in the United States, together with the ease of obtaining weapons, make up a problem that, far from decreasing, increasingly worries citizens. In 2022, 1631 children died from gun violence, while 4400 were injured.
