Deputy Director of Operations Dismissed

The director of the Metro, Guillermo Calderón, reported that after the accident on Line 3 of the Metro, which left one young woman dead and 106 injured, the decision was made to suspend Alberto García Lucio, deputy director of operations of the Metro Collective System.
“On instructions from the head of government, I have asked that the deputy director of operations retire from his position and in the afternoon we will inform which person will occupy the position,” the official said.
In the place of García Lucio was Francisco Echavarri Hernández, who is an Industrial Engineer from the National Polytechnic Institute and Master in Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

He has been with the Mexico City Metro for 35 years in areas of operation, transportation and project coordination.

The head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, said she requested the removal of the official to carry out the corresponding investigations, but so far they have not disclosed the causes of the train crash.

Both the head of government, and the director of the Metro, assured that the Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out the corresponding analysis to determine the causes and the only thing they ruled out were failures in the Central Control Post.
“No, no failure, the system is operating on time, it was modernized and is operating from the C5, its function is to regulate traffic between trains, it is one of the elements that has been provided to make the corresponding analysis,” Calderon explained.
Regarding the operation of the Metro, Calderon said that it could be ready this January 9, but it will be confirmed until tonight.
“We are doing everything we can to get service resumed tomorrow morning,” the official explained.
