Colombia: Vice President denounced an attack against her after finding “an explosive device” on a route leading to her family residence

After finding an explosive device, the Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez Mina, denounced today that there was an attempt to attempt on her life, after her security team found an explosive device, which was destroyed by anti-explosive personnel of the Judicial Investigation Section of Colombia (SIJIN), which had been placed on a route that leads to her family residence. “The Vice President of the Republic, Francia Elena Márquez Mina, confirmed the deactivation and destruction of a high-capacity explosive device (…) on the road leading to her family residence,” said a statement posted by the vice president on her Twitter account. The president said that in the report she attached there is evidence of the “new attempt” to attempt on her life. “However, we will not stop working, day after day, until we reach the #PazTotal that Colombia dreams of and needs. We will not give up until in each territory it is possible to live in true harmony,” he said. In 2019, Márquez Mina had been attacked with grenades and rifle rounds for his work as an environmental activist in the department of Cauca, where he still resides and where the explosive device was currently planted. The vice president indicated that members of her security team found the device with “more than 7 kilos of explosives,” which was detonated in a controlled manner by anti-explosive personnel. “It is a plastic bag whose interior contains explosive substance of high power based on ammonium nitrate + aluminum powder and (…) tiptoe,” the report detailed. In addition, in his social networks Márquez Mina included photos of the explosives that his security team found after being alerted about “suspicious persons” and “strange elements” on the road leading to Yolombó, in the municipality of Suárez, where a visit by the vice president was planned, the AFP news agency said.
