After the accident on Line 3, the head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, insisted that there are no cuts to the budget of the Metro Collective Transport System (STC), despite official data indicating otherwise.
He assured that, unlike the “sayings” of the opposition, in 2023 about 800 million pesos more will be allocated to the Metro, than in 2022.
Participating in his first mass event after the accident, Sheinbaum said his administration has made “historic investments” in Line 1, the Central Control Post and the Metro Energy project, which will open next week.
“This idea that has been made by the opposition that the Metro has fewer resources, is not correct. The Metro this year has more resources than last year,” he said.

Animal Politico published that, although the capital government denies that there have been cuts to the STC budget, official figures show otherwise.
According to data from the capital’s Public Account from 2018 to 2022, so far in the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum, the local government has cut 3 thousand 112 million 665 thousand 183 pesos to the Metro budget.
The main areas impacted have been maintenance and repair, as well as purchase of railway equipment and investment in infrastructure.

Sheinbaum affirmed that the complaint filed by the PAN against him for the accident of Line 3 of the Metro is for “electoral moments” and assured that the opposition is making use of the tragedy of Line 3.
“… No (he worries about the complaint), it is part of a campaign, they are electoral moments. He does not want Mexico who make political use of a tragedy. What they want is an eight-column story, they don’t want to help solve problems,” he said.
From Iztapalapa, the head of government reported that she asked the UNAM, the UAM, the Polytechnic and former directors of the Metro to accompany the capital government to make a system of verification and supervision of the different lines to guarantee safety.

During the event, Mayor Clara Brugada and the Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, supported the work of the head of government and assured that the struggle for transformation is not easy, but that Mexico City has the full support of the federal government.
Accident on Metro Line 3
On Saturday, a collision of two trains in the tunnel between the Potrero and La Raza stations, on Line 3 of the Metro, left one person dead and 106 injured.
The head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, was in Michoacan where she would meet with Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla and give a conference to talk about her achievements, when the train crash occurred.
The parliamentary groups of the coalition Va por México (PAN, PRI and PRD) in the Chamber of Deputies demanded the appearance of Claudia Sheinbaum, for the repeated accidents in the Metro.
