Ricardo Mejía resigns and will be candidate of the PT in Coahuila

Ricardo Mejía Berdeja fulfilled his goal of being a candidate for the government of Coahuila, although it will not be for Morena, the party of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, but for the PT.
This Friday, Mejía announced his resignation as undersecretary of Security of the federal government and, moments later, participated in a press conference in which the PT presented him as its standard-bearer for the governorship of Coahuilense.
Mejia’s candidacy with the PT represents a rupture in the PT alliance with Morena and the PVEM.

Despite this, Mejía said on Twitter and before the media that he is grateful to President López Obrador and that he will promote the so-called “fourth transformation.”

A few moments ago I presented my resignation from the position of Undersecretary of Public Security of the @GobiernoMX, thanking the leader President @lopezobrador_ the enormous opportunity to serve in the patriotic and historic government that he heads. Long live the #4T and Andrés Manuel López Obrador!

Mejia’s candidacy comes after in December he spoke out against the result of the polls that Morena sent to be carried out to define its candidate in Coahuila.

The winner of those exercises was Senator Armando Guadiana, but Mejía refused to recognize him and even accused him of promoting “interests.” In contrast, President López Obrador backed Guadiana.

Before the media, Mejia said Friday that his decision to compete with the PT “is not circumstantial,” but a definition he took “months ago” to promote the “fourth transformation.”
“We are going to fight for transformation,” he insisted.
Coahuila is one of the two states that next June will have elections to renew their governorship. The other is the State of Mexico.
Both entities have been governed continuously by the PRI for more than 90 years. Now, in alliance with the PAN and the PRD, the PRI members will seek to retain those governorships.
