President Gabriel Boric meets with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz with a view to improving strategies between the two countries

The Chancellor of the Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, arrived in our country as part of his tour of South America that also includes visits to Argentina and Brazil. President Gabriel Boric received him with honors at the Palacio de La Moneda to later hold a bilateral meeting.
Scholz first visited the Museum of Memory and Human Rights accompanied by the Head of State, where he paid tribute to the victims of human rights violations during the civic-military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990). The leaders are expected to discuss the situation in Colonia Dignidad, a place that was a clandestine prison during the dictatorship.

After this visit they moved to the Government Palace where the Palace guard paid honors to the chancellor and later went inside La Moneda to engage in a bilateral meeting.
Both governments took advantage of the occasion to sign three agreements with a view to science and innovation; mining training; and the circular economy. In addition, Codelco also signed an agreement with the company Aurubis of Germany in cooperation in the sector.
President Boric indicated that the German chancellor invited him to participate in the “Climate Club” in which G7 countries participate and which aims to combat climate change and global warming.
For his part, Olaf Scholz, said that Germany is interested in supporting Chile in its advances in green hydrogen and in sustainable mining such as lithium. He had words to address the war in Ukraine and the work of our country in supporting Human Rights, remembering the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état of 1973.
