Former Catamarca Governor Ramón Saadi Died

The former governor of Catamarca, Ramón Saadi, died this morning at the age of 74. The former provincial governor, who suffered from an illness that worsened in recent days, was at home at the time of his death, local media reported. Saadi was governor of Catamarca for two terms, between 1983 and 1991. Son of former governor Vicente Saadi, his management was punctuated by the case of María Soledad Morales, the 17-year-old teenager killed in 1990.La alleged involvement in the case of relatives or close to power and the security forces unleashed a broad popular repudiation that resulted in the multitudinous “Marches of Silence”, which culminated in the federal intervention of the province, in 1991, ordered by then President Carlos Menem.Saadi tried to return to power in the three subsequent elections, but was defeated in all of them.
