Technical careers: a boost for economic recovery

In times of crisis, such as the economic crisis affecting Chile, where the effects of inflation are already being felt, technical careers oriented to the labor market are of great help for the generation of employment.
If we look at Europe or developed Asian countries, this educational modality is highly valued. In fact, Japan has 57 higher education institutions that deliver more than 700 programs to respond to domestic demand.
According to a World Bank report called “The Fast Track to New Skills,” the quality of technical education in Latin America must be enhanced to generate the human capital needed for economic recovery and growth.
In this sense, I believe that innovation in the country’s academic programs has to respond to the immediate and medium-term needs of the productive sector, to generate relatively fast and well-paid job opportunities.
Although it is a pressing issue, the quality of content and its democratization must be available to everyone and in their own places of residence or work, something that online education performs efficiently.
Taking into account the diagnosis of the World Bank and what is happening in developed countries, technical careers are called to play an important role at this crucial moment in our economy.
For this, higher education institutions must meet two basic requirements: quality education and a flexible academic trajectory that allows students to contribute with their vocation to the productive sector of the country.
