Rains in the north of the country leave houses flooded and cause roadblocks

The heavy rains recorded in the northern part of the country, in the pre-Andean and mountain sectors of the regions of Antofagasta, Atacama and Coquimbo, have caused road blocks and have left a series of houses flooded and people isolated.
As a result of the fact, the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred) delivered a balance of the situation, detailing that in the commune of Sierra Gorda, region of Antofagasta, a total of five flooded houses have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, in the commune of María Elena, 140 families from the Mancor and Campo Lindo camps have been affected. In the case of Copiapó, it was reported that there are 39 people who are isolated as a result of the activation of the Paipote ravine.
According to Radio Biobío, in the Horcón sector the situation caused a landslide from the hills near the town, which cut off traffic in both directions.
Carabineros de Vicuña and Reten Pisco Elqui indicated that the inhabitants of four houses, to which water and mud entered, are isolated. According to the major of the fifth police station of Vicuña, Felipe Barraza, as a result of the above, an evacuation began.
The governor of Antofagasta, Ricardo Díaz, said that “the Emergency Committee should be chaired from the highest regional authority. I am president of the Association of Governors of Chile; We have always raised the need to decentralize decision-making.”
“It cannot be that in the face of an emergency, to be able to assign or be able to deliver in a much faster way, it depends on an authorization from the Budget Directorate. There has to be a way to act more quickly in the face of the emergency,” he added.
On the other hand, the Yellow Alerts remain in force for the communes of Diego de Almagro and Alto del Carmen, in the Atacama region. Likewise, the Preventive Early Warning for the region of Antofagasta and the communes of Copiapó and Huasco, and for 10 communes of the Coquimbo region.
