The Chamber of Senators gave half sanction to the initiative of the National Road Safety Agency, an agency of the Ministry of Transport of the Nation, and with 48 votes in favor and 9 against, it turned into National Law Zero Alcohol at the wheel. From now on, this new law modifies the national traffic law by setting the blood alcohol tolerance for driving any type of vehicle at zero. This standard is already implemented in 13 provinces and more than 50 Argentine cities, where progress was made in relation to road accidents. For example, in Jujuy, deaths per year were reduced by 37.1%. The Minister of Transport, Diego Giuliano, said: “We appreciate the accompaniment of senators to this historic Law, which we have been promoting from the National Road Safety Agency, which was supported by the relatives of victims and was expected by all society. Alcohol is present in 1 in 4 deaths in road accidents, so we were always very clear: alcohol at the wheel, zero. ” Pablo Martínez Carignano, Executive Director of the National Road Safety Agency, in the sanction of the law mentioned: “Today Argentina took a historic step in road safety, which we must accompany with more controls and more commitment, so we will be available to each province and municipality to provide them with the necessary resources and work together on something fundamental, which is saving lives.”
