Cannes: “Anatomy of a Fall” won the Palme d’Or

With Ruben Ostlund as president of the jury, the Festival de Cannes closed its 76th edition by awarding the Palme d’Or to Justine Triet for her feature film “Anatomy of a Fall”, while the Grand Prix – second prize in importance – went to Jonathan Glazer for “Zone of interest”. Although Glazer’s film was placed as one of the favorites to take the top award in the previous one, finally the jury leaned towards Triet and its 150-minute feature film starring Sandra Hüller. The plot follows a woman who becomes the main suspect in the murder of her husband, and the tension reaches its climax in the irruption of her blind son, the only witness to the fact. The festival had one of its best editions and proof is the return of the legendary Wim Wenders with “Perfect Days”, a film that won the Best Male Performance for its protagonist Koji Yakusho. The director of “The Wings of Desire” last participated in a major project in 2005, with his film “Knocking at the Gates of Heaven”, and almost 20 years later, he returned with the challenge of portraying Hirayama, a bathroom cleaner apparently satisfied with his life. Chaired by Ostlund -last winner of the Palme d’Or for “The Triangle of Sadness”-, the jury was composed of Brie Larson, Paul Dano, Julia Ducournau, Denis Ménochet, Rungano Nyoni, Atiq Rahimi, the Argentine Damián Szifrón and Maryam Touzani.
