Sanctions for public servants who disseminate evidence of any crime: Andrea Villanueva

The deputy of the 11th District of Morelia, argued that victims and their families are vulnerable to the reprehensible behaviors of some officials who improperly disseminate evidence related to criminal proceedings.
Morelia; Mich.- Affirming that public servants have the obligation to work and ensure the welfare of citizens, the deputy of District 11 of Morelia, Andrea Villanueva Cano, will propose, during the next session, reforms to the Criminal Code of the State of Michoacán to sanction any official who improperly disseminates objects, documents or evidence related to criminal proceedings, according to a statement.
In this regard, the popular representative recalled that these reforms are due to a national movement that seeks to typify the reprehensible conduct of officials, who undermine the integrity and dignity of people and their families, by leaking sensitive information from those who have been victims of a crime.
While acknowledging that since 2020 reforms have been presented and approved in this area, both at the federal and local levels, the deputy of Morelia pointed out that it is necessary to adapt these norms to the reality that prevails in our entity, especially in the face of a justice system that repeatedly violates the dignity of the victims.
“This proposal sanctions, from the Criminal Code, the dissemination of information or audiovisual material of crimes related to gender violence or any instrument related to a criminal procedure or product of several, indicated in Law as crimes,” he explained.

In addition, penalties will be increased by one third if the dignity of victims and family members is undermined; in the case of corpses of women, girls or adolescents, or the circumstances of their death, injuries or the state of health of the victim.
With this regulation, “what we want is to preserve the dignity of the victims and their families, as well as to reduce the damage they suffer when they are revictimized by public servants,” concluded Andrea Villanueva.
