More works for waste management projected in 2024: Bedolla

Morelia, Michoacán.- To expand the infrastructure and services of final disposal of garbage, the regionalization of six new Intermunicipal Centers for the Treatment of Solid Waste (CITIRS) in Michoacán, said Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, reported in a statement.
After mentioning that the Secretary of Environment of the state works together with the municipalities, the proposals for its construction and operation in Sahuayo, Tarímbaro, Zitácuaro, Pátzcuaro, La Piedad and Lázaro Cárdenas, the president said that these CITIRS will cover a total of 32 municipalities in the state. He said that these projects will be a priority to access resources from the State Contributions Fund for the Infrastructure of Municipal Public Services (Faeispum), in order to solve environmental problems due to lack of adequate spaces for the integral management of garbage.

The governor commented that 63 municipalities were identified with open dumps, of which 52 lack infrastructure, which leads to prioritizing the regionalization of the CITIRS to avoid further contamination of soil and water.
He recalled that this year, through Faeispum, works were authorized for regional CITIRS in Ario de Rosales, Uruapan, Ciudad Hidalgo, Coahuayana and the Transfer Center in Arantepacua, with a direct benefit to 21 municipalities and indigenous communities, with an investment amount of more than 73.6 million pesos.
