Children with cancer are not alone; 400 families receive support to continue: Bedolla

Morelia, Michoacán.- Minors who today face a battle against cancer are not alone, in the Government of Michoacán they have an ally that supports them and accompanies them economically in this process so that they do not abandon their treatment, said the governor of the state Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla.
Before more than 400 beneficiaries of the Families Caregivers of Children with Cancer program, from zero to 17 years 11 months, the president led the League of Hope event, where he said he was excited because the life expectancy of patients with cancer disease is increasing, because they are following their treatments on time and go to appointments on time.
“This is what we want, that they continue in treatment, that they do not give up because I am sure they will move forward, with all my heart that I wish them and the program will continue for and for you, have the confidence,” said the state president.
For her part, the honorary president of DIF Michoacán, Grisel Tello Pimentel, applauded the effort that doctors make, and recognized that the love of the family is the true engine to overcome this disease, “because it is love that can with all wars,” she said.
The event was held at the facilities of the Convention and Exhibition Center of Morelia (Ceconexpo), in the midst of an atmosphere of fair and games, where the head of the Secretariat of Welfare (Sedebi), Giulianna Bugarini Torres, said that the 400 families present today represent stories of heroes and heroines that motivate to continue with this program and can defeat this disease.
The Families Caregivers of Children with Cancer program grants monthly financial support of 4 thousand pesos to help cover the costs of transportation, food, and lodging, so that patients do not suspend their treatments or attend their medical consultations.
“In 2023, the goal of serving 400 families in 105 municipalities of the state was reached, and since the beginning of the program, in 2022 510 families have been supported, including those who come to cancer care in the states of Jalisco, Colima, Guanajuato and Mexico City,” explained Bugarini Torres.
On behalf of the 400 beneficiary families, Mrs. Catalina Zavala Gutiérrez, thanked the creation of this program that represents a hope for families with cancer patients, and asked the governor to give continuity because for them it is the hope of seeing their children grow.
For his part, the Secretary of Health in Michoacán, Elías Ibarra Torres, explained that minors detected with cancer have a survival of 80 percent in the state, thanks to the dignified treatment they receive, and medicines. “And one link that we had lost was that they abandoned the treatment because they had to move from their municipalities, and today with the support they can go.”
