Bedolla Inaugurates International Congress on Crime Prevention

Morelia, Michoacán. – Michoacán is making great efforts to strengthen security through prevention, said Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, at the inauguration of the first International Congress on Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation. Challenges and Perspectives, according to a statement.
The president pointed out that the state has made progress in this area after the implementation of joint actions with the Prosecutors’ Offices, the Army, and the National and Civil Guards, which, according to the National Public Security System, has allowed Michoacán to add 18 months with a downward trend in the crime of homicide.
He stressed that the reform of the Penal Code was promoted to classify the crime of extortion, the increase of powers to the Auxiliary Police to reinforce security in the business sector, as well as the increase in the criminalization of the crime of femicide to 60 years in prison.
The head of the Executive Secretariat of the State Public Security System (SESESP), César Erwin Sánchez Coria, said that for the first time security in Michoacán is a priority; For this reason, this Congress is a space for analysis to strengthen the entity’s security groups.

He said that it is an opportunity for law enforcement agencies to have tools provided by specialists in this field, who come from Spain, Italy, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Mexico.
Meanwhile, Luca Brioschi, Police Attaché of the Italian Embassy in Mexico, and president of the Association of Accredited Police and Security Liaison Advisors and Liaison in Mexico (ACAEPS), pointed out that this forum will be to share good practices and success stories that will be of great support to strengthen the construction of peace and the fundamental rights of the population.
The congress is open to the general public, both to the conferences and to the working groups that will take place on October 18, 19 and 20 at the José María Morelos Theater of the Morelia Convention and Exhibition Center (Ceconexpo) and in the premiere room of the Best Western Hotel.
