In Michoacán, 98 percent of municipalities have drought problems

Morelia, Michoacán.- This year, 98 percent of Michoacán’s municipalities faced droughts. A total of 105 municipalities were affected by extreme drought, one by severe drought and 5 by moderate drought.
Within the framework of the signing of the State Plan Against Drought, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, pointed out that it is an effect of climate change that afflicts the world and although he ruled out a crisis, it is, he said, an issue in which urgent actions are required, so he called for the unity of mayors for attention.
The state governor stressed that the economic resource must be redirected and planned intelligently to the environment, since currently there are no extraordinary resources, since the five percent per year that is allocated to water is not enough, so for next year it is proposed that 25 percent of the Faiespum be allocated to the care of water. which represents 375 million pesos; In addition, in the first week of January, the first window of the fund will open to receive projects in the field.
In addition, he announced a comprehensive rescue of the Güero River Basin and a declaration of a water disaster zone for Michoacán will be sought before the federation. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Environment, Alejandro Méndez López, stressed that this year the dams barely reached 50 percent of their capacity.
However, he highlighted the state government’s reactions to reduce fires by 18 percent. It was even highlighted that Michoacán ranks seventh in the Environment, since from 2021 to 2022 12 places were advanced.
