3 Women Who Lost the Morena Poll Will Be Candidates

Mexico. – Of Morena’s 9 candidacies for governorships in 2024, 3 women, who came in second place in the polls, were named candidates.

This is to ensure compliance with the regulations of the National Electoral Institute (INE) that require parties to comply with the principle of gender equity.
The party’s national leader, Mario Delgado, told the media that, in the cases of Mexico City, Jalisco and Guanajuato, the party decided to give preponderance to the women with the most votes in the polls, even if they lost to men.

Clara Brugada, former mayor of Iztapalapa, will have the candidacy for Mexico City as she is the most supported woman in the party’s polls, although Omar García Harfuch, former secretary of security of the capital, beat her with a 40.5 percent position against Brugada’s 26.7 percent.

For Jalisco, he was left with 18.6 percent of positioning against the 23.9 percent of Carlos Lomelí, who will be able to aspire to the Senate, along with Harfuch and Sheffield if they wish.

In the case of Guanajuato, Ricardo Sheffield was positioned with 24.4 percent, but Alma Alcaraz, who had 23.4 percent, was chosen.
Mario Delgado pointed out that two women obtained the candidacy by coming in first place in the polls, being Margarita González for Morelos and Rocío Nahle in Veracruz.
