Benjamin Netanyahu spoke of a possible deal for the release of hostages

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there “could” be negotiations between his government and the Palestinian Islamist organization, Hamas, for the release of hostages who were taken in the attack in early October. In an interview with NBC, he said that “it could be, but the less I talk about it, the more likely it will be to materialize,” although he added that “if there is a possibility of an agreement, we will talk about it when it is there; We’ll announce it if it’s done.” In addition, he maintained that Israel is “fighting the just battle of civilization against barbarism” and took it upon himself to make a strong comparison: “It’s like in World War II, the Allies fought the Nazis, they went to the German cities, the Nazis hid in the civilian neighborhoods and civilians died.” Then, on the large protests that are taking place in several European capitals to return peace to the region, he asked: “And who are they protesting against? Against the Nazis or against the Allies?” It should be noted that, although this conflict in the Gaza Strip has been going on for many years, it has recently gained much more strength when Hamas attacked Israeli territory, killing some 1,200 people and taking some 240 hostage. Since then, Israel’s military response has resulted in more than 11,000 deaths, including some 4,500 children, according to the Islamist organization.
