Milei: “The most similar plan we propose is that of convertibility”

After the triumph of Javier Milei as the new president of Argentina for the next four years, the libertarian gave an interview with Alejandro Fantino where he ratified his fiscal adjustment plan but pointed out that “politics is going to pay for it, not the people.” In this sense, the next president said that “it is the first time that someone who says that there is going to be an adjustment wins; because it’s not the people who are going to pay for it, it’s the caste.” As for Sunday’s victory, where Milei obtained 55.7% while Massa added 42.3%, he said: “Good Argentines slapped the face, overcame fear and saw hope,” and then added: “My commitment is to end inflation, to return to growth so that jobs are generated, to make poverty fall, destitution and end insecurity.” In addition, regarding the slogan of his political space, he explained that “the message of freedom is a transversal message. Liberalism was created to free us from the state.” Either all good Argentines are saved or we become the largest slum in the world,” said Javier Milei. After being asked about citizens who receive social assistance from the state, he said: “It may be that they are bored of being treated like slaves. I’m not going to take away their food, but we’re going to give them back their freedom.” Regarding the team that will accompany him during his administration, he commented that “the Minister of Economy is chosen by me. There are a lot of people who come from many places. We’re putting together a team, I don’t care where they come from and it’s going to surprise people.” In addition, the libertarian quoted former President Carlos Menem when referring to the attacks he received during the election campaign: “There is a phrase that I used, which says ‘you don’t drive looking in the rearview mirror.'” Regarding the Argentine economy, he said that the economic plan implemented during the Menem administration was the most successful in history: “The most similar plan that we propose is that of convertibility.”
