On the eve of the start of summer, Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare reported that there have been more than 10,400 cases of dengue, with a total of 10,468 confirmed cases so far this year. According to the latest epidemiological report, 264 new cases were registered in the last week and a total of 795 in the previous three, reflecting an increase of 27% compared to the previous report. As for the deaths, 20 are reported in 2023, with one new death confirmed in recent days. Deaths from chikungunya total 335, with one new case recently confirmed. In this way, dengue continues to advance in Paraguay with an increase in cases in 15 of the 18 health regions. It is worth noting that 70% of the cases come from Central, Caaguazú, Itapúa, San Pedro and Asunción. In addition, the cumulative incidence rate of dengue was recorded at 298 cases per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide. Currently, the DEN1 and DEN2 serotypes are circulating, with a predominance of 55% of DEN2 and the Ministry of Health insists on eliminating mosquito breeding sites, using repellent and mosquito nets, and going to early consultation in case of symptoms to avoid complications.
