Paris pays tribute to David Bowie with a street in his honor

The city of Paris dresses up to celebrate the memory and legacy of the legendary David Bowie, granting him an immortal space in its streets. Next Monday, January 8, the French capital will name a street after the famous musician, eight years after his death. The “Rue David Bowie”, a stretch of approximately 50 meters in length, will be strategically located in the 13th arrondissement, between the Austerlitz train station and the François Mitterrand National Library, in the vicinity of the majestic Seine River. This urban enclave, previously known as “VoieDZ/13” by city planners, will be transformed into a tangible tribute to the creative genius that Bowie was.The artist, recognized for his immense contribution to music and pop culture, left an indelible legacy after his departure on January 10, 2016, at the age of 69, after a battle with cancer. Since his landmark hit “Space Oddity” in 1969, Bowie has emerged as one of the most influential and successful musicians of the 20th century.Among his most memorable works are iconic albums such as “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” and “Aladdin Sane,” as well as unforgettable hits such as “Let’s Dance.” His capacity for constant reinvention and chameleonic style made him a revered figure, transcending borders and generations. Although Paris was not a central stage in Bowie’s life, unlike London, Berlin, or Los Angeles, the city and its theatrical cultural avant-garde left an indelible mark on his visual style. The official opening ceremony of the “Rue David Bowie” is scheduled for Monday afternoon, as announced on the social network X by the mayor of the district, Jérôme Coumet, recognized as a fervent admirer of Bowie, who proposed the idea in 2020.
