Lake Cuitzeo will not be used for agricultural purposes, says Ramírez Bedolla – MonitorExpresso.com

Cuitzeo, Michoacán. – In response to a call from residents about the risks of the drought in Lake Cuitzeo, the governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla assured that there is a plan in this regard, but in no way will it be used for agricultural issues.
At Casa Michoacán, he listed a series of actions for his recovery; “We are going to value the issue of attracting rainfall, through cloud seeding, contrary to the use of anti-hail cannons, it is the paradox, in addition to the treatment of wastewater, reforestation and avoiding the change of land use,” he said
The state governor said that, for the time being, the issue would not be raised at an international level with environmental organizations, but in regional forums, since they are working hand in hand with the National Water Commission.
“The weather phenomenon of drought is occurring throughout the country and it is going to cause forest fires to be brought forward, so we are prepared with the brigades,” he said.
He commented that 70 percent of the water is used for agricultural constructions and 30 percent for human consumption, “for almost 100 years the lake has presented water stress, but it is clear that it will not be used for agricultural issues.”
It should be remembered that several roads were built in Lake Cuitzeo that divided the lake into three large basins, which impacted the spring areas; land-use change, encouraging deforestation; the inadequate management of Morelia’s wastewater and climate change, which has led to its drought.

In view of the 70 percent drought of Lake Cuitzeo, in recent days there have been rain showers or land storms in this area, so the authorities and specialists have called on the community about this situation that can generate a danger to the health of the inhabitants of the towns of Copándaro, Huandacareo and Chucándiro; Ramírez Bedolla said that there is a plan and various actions will be carried out to try to rescue the water from the lake.
