Mexico. – This Monday, February 12, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), reported that Mexico received ten percent more international tourists in 2023 than in 2022, in addition to an increase of almost nine percent in foreign exchange income for this concept. The institute also announced that more than 42.15 million foreign tourists entered during all of last year, compared to 38.32 million the previous year, in terms of the arrival of tourists to the northern border states there was an increase of 18.3 percent, while those who arrived in the other entities of the country showed an advance of 5.8 percent. Likewise, in 2023, the total expenditure of international tourists increased by 8.9 percent annually to 28 thousand 682.6 million dollars, in contrast, the average expenditure of each tourist decreased 1 percent to 680.44 dollars in 2023 compared to 687.46 dollars in 2022.Tourism, before the health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it represented 8.6 percent of the national economy in 2019, closed in 2021 at 7.1 percent and in 2022 at 8.5 percent, the autonomous agency reported, in addition to the tourism-related economy, which Inegi calls tourism GDP, grew 7.8 percent annually in the third quarter of 2023, driven in particular by services.
